'A Day in the Life of a CNA'

So, after a [slightly nutty] 2-10 shift with the 2 slackers (by slackers I mean the 2 "co" aides I work with once a week which everyone feels sorry for me having to work with them, including someone who doesnt work there), and getting only 5-5 1/2 hrs of interrupted sleep, I went in for my 6-2 shift. It started great. We were right on time, everything was going smoothly. But that changed FAST. Before breakfast was even finished.

8:00/8:30 Miss P had to go to the bathroom. I took her to her room, she couldnt hold it till she got on the toilet...diarrhea everywhere. I cleaned it off the floor (while she is on her bedside commode, still going), wiped it off her boot and shoe, and cleaned her up as much as possible while she was sitting. Got co-aide to help her stand up while I wiped her clean and got her into bed.

8:45/9:00 Mr. W has to use the bedside commode (sometimes he is continent, sometimes incontinent). I caught him trying to get on it himself, he cant walk. (Actually, he was wanting on the trash can).

9:15ish Mr. S has a dr appt at 9:45am. He has an accident...stool all over himself, bedroom floor and his bathroom. I have to clean him up, run to laundry to find him some pants, send him off to the van to transport to his appt., clean up the floor, toilet seat, complete change of his bedding.

Go to get Mr. W off the commode to find him already sitting [halfway] in his wheel chair, pants still down, go get hall LVN to help get him up so we can get his pants up and put him in bed.

The whole time I'm dealing with feces the float aide is on the other hall getting Mr. LW to go to the hospital and others are getting ready for 2-3 new residents to come in later in the day.

Have not done any of my 4 showers yet (typically whoever is not done by lunches doesnt get done that day)

10:00 Lunch

10:15 Find out everyone is looking for me...wha????

10:20 Orientation (about a month in a half into the job) for the rest of the day. Leaving only 2 aides on the floor on a day when the usual 3 doesnt seem enough and still no showers. one aide got to do his 3 showers, but the other aide and I were unable to do our combined 7. I was never told about orientation. And they didnt bother scheduling an aide to cover for me.

So I'm stuck stitting through typical boring orientation (which always includes videos) trying not to fall asleep from boredom and tiredness. Usually I'm fine as long as I'm n my feet working, sit down and then I feel exhausted.

Oh, and did I mention its also the first day of that time of month?
